When You Miss Him

We would spend time together, laughing, talking, crying, praising. We even had those midnight connections when it was quiet, just us. Days when we would have those intense heart-to-heart conversations. It was amazing.

Then it happened. Life did! All the things that kept me busy. All the things that were deemed important, a must-do, a right now…until HE became distant.

I was now physically burned out, spiritually drained, emotionally fatigued, and overwhelmed. Why? I was missing out on the very thing that gives me life… time with God.

Does this sound familiar? Is it always rush hour in your life? Do you feel like you have to be praying on the go? There is no more time for devotions and good old singing at home, no time to study the word, so the “verse of the day” on the iPhone screen will have to do.

Hey, no judgments here. I know too well the demands of a job, operating a business, or two, a home to take care of, exams to prepare for, the kids that need your attention, church choir practices, and if you are like me, you may even be a single parent doing all of it alone. Even now, I am trying to hurry this blog so that I can get to the gym.

One of my life’s philosophies is that I don’t want to be too busy working for God so that I don’t have time to spend with God. We must take time to feed our souls and bless others.

The jobs we are rushing to, the money we are trying to make, and the obligations we need to fulfill are all a part of us, and what we do, but God does not want us to get distracted by these things so much so that He is waiting for a spot on our calendar. We miss Him because our to-dos have superseded time with God, and we have separated our desires from His desires and will for our lives. What He wants for us is to put Him first in all things. This means we are praying at our desks at work, praying over our finances, and dedicating our children in prayer because this world is getting crazier by the second.

See, God wants all of us, everything. He desires for us to live and walk in His spirit (Galatians 5:25). Not spending time with Him robs us of such intimacy with Him.

So what did I do? I began to reclaim my quality time with God and bask in His true, unfiltered, uncompromising, unconditional LOVE. Distancing myself from God did not release me from His unconditional love. There is nothing that can separate us from His love (Romans 8: 38-39). He was there, just waiting for me to love Him back, waiting for me to recognize my need for such a love.

There is nothing better than this.  We are His daughters. He is interested in us, and He is interested in saving us.

So, if you are missing God, it means your focus is not on Him, but this also means you are thirsty for righteousness, and He can fill you up. He is still in love with you. He is still crazy about you – flaws and all. He is still there, waiting. He only wants you to “Seek Him while He may be found and call upon Him while He is near.” Isaiah 55:6-7

Seek Him first. Make time for Him first. When you transform your relationship with God, you transform the outlook of your daily life.

Prayer: Lord, please help me to seek after you. Help me choose you daily. Help me to hunger and thirst after your righteousness. I give you all the glory, honor, and praise. Amen.
